Skin Coloring Tutorial by BloodlineV Skin Coloring Tutorial by BloodlineV
This is how I color skin in my anime styled drawings. :iconadachimurdersplz:
I dunno if this'll help anyone but imma upload it anyway.

I don't feel that verbal today so there's probably tons of typos and such.
I know that many had hoped a drawing tutorial not a coloring tutorial, but asdfgh these things take so much time to make, anatomy tutorials even more, so I can't really promise when I'll get one done.

I need advice, so im drawin kurumi tokisaki and she is a very pale character. I tried sampling skin tones off of other pictures of her to be accurate but when i use them they dont look right she looks like she has a really abnormal skin color how can i get better skin tones?

I desperately need your help, I've accidentally changed the settings for my blur tool and I can't get correct them back to the way I had them previously, would be so kind as to possibly tell me your settings for your blur tool? I'm asking you specifically because your shade style is closest to my own. Your help would be extremely appreciated. :)

Okay here are my settings: (the names for these might vary depending on the version of SAI you're using)
Density: 100
Blending: 100
Dilution: 100
Persistence: 80
Smoothing Prs: 100

I change these occasionally myself so I don't if you find them helpful or not.

Sai is not letting me color the skin layer when I put the skin layer underneath the lineart layer. :/ how did you get it to work that way ? I'm afraid if i do what I usually do and put the skin layer above the lineart layer this method won't work because I'd have to put the skin layer on the "multiply" setting to be able to see the lineart underneath the color

Hello, and so sorry for the late reply!
The skin layer and the lineart layer should not be connected in any way and so the order you put them in should not stop you from drawing on them.
So make sure that the layers are not clipped to any other layers and that the opacity lock isn't on.

The main light source is in front of her, and there's also many ambient light sources around her.

Question, when you finish coloring/shading and you have color on the outside of the line art, do you simply erase it or is there a quicker, more efficient way to cut out excess color? Like how do you lock the line art so when you color, nothing goes outside of it?

Please read the "For Starters" again.

I paint the base color layers by hand, this way you'll have to make sure yourself that the color doesn't go over the lineart.
You can then use these base color layers to avoid the shading and lighting going over the lines by using the 'Clipping Group' tab on top of the layer panel and clipping the shading layers to the base color layer below.

Hi, think of layers as transparent sheets placed on top of each other.
If there's nothing drawn on the sheets you'll see through them all but if you paint a flower on the bottom layer and then color any layer above it black, you won't be able to see the flower anymore. I hope I made any sense. : D
Here's my Paint Tool SAI tutorial for beginners: [link]

Thank you. (: I've been drawing my whole life but I started drawing anime styled drawings about 5 years ago.

oh I get it! Thank you soooo much for the help and for taking the time to reply back! :3 I've haven't been drawing for that long but once in a while I draw really good! but when I want to put it on here! It's so hard to scan it right. then it's hard to draw on the computer D: so really none of my good works are on deviantART. so hopefully I get the hang of layers and stuff ^-^" thank you again.
